marathon 2015
the beirut marathon association - founded in 2003 by mrs. may el-khalil - started as a dream; to bring the culture of running to lebanon and put back together what the civil war had torn apart: unity. it all started when mrs. el-khalil was hit by a truck and left unable to perform. doctors told her that she would never be able to run again. however, she lived. and she ran again. in july 2015, the Hilights team had encountered a similar misfortunate event. we lost a dear team member, mrs. rita daham francis, to the epitome of irresponsibility. a hit and run accident had brought her life to an end. nonetheless, we are firm believers that only in the darkest places, one can see the brightest light. and light is what we see best. this year, in the good memory of rita, our team decided to contribute in the beirut marathon association by finishing the 10K Fun run and donating its contribution proceeds to kunhadi – an organization that aims to introduce a new culture of safe driving among the lebanese society. in hopes of a better tomorrow, we ran as one. we ran for peace. we ran for the light that rita had brought into our lives. until next year, drive responsibly for every life matters.
